I’m still working my way through Agatha Christie An Autobiography, but I decided to take a break from nonfiction to re-read an old favorite. Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley. It has all the familiar elements – an enchanted castle, roses that bloom beautifully until the Beast is dying, a magic “mirror”, even a grand library. McKinley doesn’t turn the story on it’s head, but she does tell it lovingly from Beauty’s perspective. I enjoy being able to really understand Beauty’s changing feelings for the Beast. I also found a great quote that I may just use for next Thursday’s very first Thoughtful Third Thursday!
