Thoughtful Third Thursday: December 2014

Time for the final T3 of 2014. This month’s theme is Best OR Worst Read of 2014. If you read my post on Tuesday, you know I read a LOT of great books this year. I already used some of them for T3 posts, and I don’t want to end the year on a low note, so I’m choosing my favorite book in my favorite new-to-me series of the year, Abhorsen by Garth Nix.

Abhorsen

I chose a base of black and darkwash denim, because this book is DARK fantasy. The houndstooth cardigan represents one of my favorite characters from the book, the Disreputable Dog (my other favorite is Mogget, a feline familiar). The key pendant stands in for the keys embroidered all over the Abhorsen’s robes.

“I am the Disreputable Dog. Or Disreputable Bitch, if you want to get technical. When are we going for a walk?”
– Garth Nix, Lirael

Sam picked up his pack, but before he could put it on, Mogget leaped onto it and slid under the top flap. All that could be seen of him were his green eyes and one white-furred ear.
“Remember I advised against this way,” he instructed. “Wake me when whatever terrible thing is about to happen happens, or if it appears I might get wet.”
― Garth Nix, Abhorsen

She was admiring the tiny, repeated silver key motif on the black surcoat . . .
― Garth Nix, Sabriel

Now it’s your turn! What was your best (or worst) read of 2014? Link it up!

Ahahahaha! I see what you did there. Houndstooth! Genius! And I love how the toughness of the look (boots and black) is mitigated by the delicacy of the necklace. ❤

I wonder if I can get away with re-reading the trilogy and make them part of my 2014 Goodreads challenge? Would they count if they're repeats? I need 3 more books and I dunno if I can make it.

I just finished Sabriel and loved it so much! Haven’t gotten to the disreputable dog yet in the series but I’m guessing I’ll like her if she’s as fun as Mogget. The key is a nice touch on the outfit.
