Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is a Freebie, so I chose to write about my book “boyfriends”.
Smart Alecks
- Henry Tilney from Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. He can’t help but tease his lady love just a little bit.
- Minho from The Maze Runner series by James Dashner (pictured). He was far and away my favorite character and needs his own book!
- Taks from Shadows by Robin McKinley. Part of the reason I loved Minho was because he reminded me of Taks. They’re both snarky, cheeky, wisecracking, and adorable.
- Fred and George Weasley from the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. Do I really need to explain this one? They’re a riot!
Mystery Men
- Darcy O’Mara from the Her Royal Spyness series by Rhys Bowen. Darcy drops in and out of Georgie’s life on a whim – what is he doing when he’s not with her?
- Ranger from the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. The guy is practically a ninja, and he could’ve totally gone in the Smart Aleck category.
- Henry Nobley from Austenland by Shannon Hale (pictured). He starts out as a cold Mr. Darcy character, but is he really what he appears to be? I must admit that part of my love might be due to JJ Feild (who also played Henry Tilney on screen, and whose name is really spelled that way).
Sweethearts
- Paul Child from My Life in France by Julia Child (pictured). I debated about including him because he’s a real person as well as a character, but I still love him! He’s so incredibly supportive of Julia! Plus, Stanley Tucci!
- Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. He’s just so solid – loyal, dependable, strong. I do appreciate that Josh Hutcherson / the writers / directors of the films have made Peeta a little sassy.
- Alec Fletcher from the Daisy Dalrymple series by Carola Dunn. Handsome, intelligent, loving husband and father – what’s better than that?
After 15 years my husband isn’t much of a mystery, but he is the perfect blend of smart aleck and sweetheart. The vast majority of my book “boyfriends” remind me of him, in one way or another. ❤
I love Henry Tilney so much! He’s not the typical Austen hero, but he’s one of my favorites!

Well, Northanger Abbey isn’t a typical Austen book. 🙂 Austen’s heroes, while they have many good points, tend to be too serious for my taste. Give me a funny hero any day!

Awww! Your list is pretty comprehensive and I recognize a few of the men – thanks for the eye candy! – but it was the last bit that got to me. How long did you say you guys have been married again? And how long have you known him in total? That’s true love right there, my friend! 🙂

😀 We’ve been married for 14+ years (our 14th anniversary was in September) and we met 14 months before we got married (and he’s 14 months older than me – that’s a lot of 14s).

I need to remember stuff like this because it means I’m a good fried, right? But gods! I can barely remember the year my kids were born so forgive me if I end up asking again in the future. ;p

MINHOOOOO! 🙂 Yep, that’s all I’m saying.
I did my TTT on reasons to read comics! 🙂

I know, right?!?! I see Dashner is writing another prequel, so hopefully we get more Minho. 🙂
Comics have finally made a reader out of my husband. He just finished Death of the Family last night.

That’s a good one! I love pretty much anything to do with Batman, so I’m happy to hear that. Tell him he should try Saga and The Walking Dead. 🙂

What a fun topic! I’m in with Ranger, although he scares me, lol. Looking forward to meeting Darcy when I finally get around to beginning Her Royal Spyness series.
I did a Teaser Tuesdays today. Sadly the male protagonist is too plain vanilla to be memorable. http://wp.me/pZnGI-hx

Ranger is definitely scary! At least he’s one of the good guys.
Darcy O’Mara isn’t scary, but he’s very mysterious. Plus, he’s Irish, so the accent is fun to imagine. 🙂

Thanks! Which ones have you read? I’m guessing Northanger Abbey, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Austenland?

I do adore Mr. Tilney and his humor. I actually think he is my favorite part of Northanger Abbey.

A lot of good choices here and I like your categories! Way to go for the outlier of Austen heroes – I like him a lot too and don’t entirely understand why he likes Catherine who seems a little feather headed to keep him interested. I’ve only read the first of the Her Royal Spyness books but was totally intrigued by Darcy – I think he was my favorite part of the book. He’s also a bit of a Smart Aleck. Also wholeheartedly support the choice of Alex Fletcher. My most recent book crush was Mark Watney from The Martian. He’d fall into the Smart Aleck category and also super smart – rowr!

Good point about Henry Tilney. I’ll keep that in mind as I re-read. 🙂 I think most of the guys on this list can be a little smart aleck-y at times, even the lovely Alec Fletcher.

Great choice for freebie list, you’ve got some awesome picks on your list.
I’m more of a Newt fan then Minho, but can totally see where you are coming from, he’s cool. Also YES to the Weasley twins, I would constantly be crying laugher being around either one or both of them! I am also team Peeta, he is WAY better then Gale! 🙂

Newt is a great character too. The Weasley twins are the BEST! I like Gale just fine, but I LOVE Peeta. 😀

Henry Tilney is awesome! While I probably respect others of Austen’s heroes more, it is Tilney I would marry! JJ Fields does a great job portraying him.

Haha, awesome comment! Yes, some of Austen’s other heroes are extremely honorable (Colonel Brandon, Edmund Bertram, etc.) but might be uncomfortable to live with. Henry would be fun!

Oh, I love the film of Austenland – it’s extremely funny! I loved seeing James Callis, who I only knew from Battlestar Galactica, as the over the top “suitor”. 😆
