TTT: 2016 Challenges

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Top Ten Resolutions We Have For 2016 (can be bookish, personal resolutions, “I resolve to finally read these 10 books, series I resolve to finish in 2015, etc.). I’m not a resolutions kind of girl, so here are 10 things I challenge myself to do in 2016:

ONE. Limit my bookish spending. Pre-order no more than 12 books (average 1 per month). Spend no more than $60 on used / bargain books (average $5 per month).

TWO. Post more book reviews. Write monthly Look Reviews (full book reviews with an accompanying outfit) and post my micro mini Goodreads reviews on the blog.

THREE. Read at least 200 books.

FOUR. Read these 11 Poirot novels, plus 1 short story:

  1. Four and Twenty Blackbirds (short story) Completed 1/1/2016
  2. Sad Cypress
  3. One, Two Buckle my Shoe
  4. Evil Under the Sun
  5. Five Little Pigs
  6. The Hollow
  7. Taken at the Flood
  8. Mrs McGinty’s Dead
  9. After the Funeral
  10. Hickory Dickory Dock
  11. Dead Man’s Folly
  12. Cat Among the Pigeons

FIVE. Read 26 books for a personal Alphabet Challenge.

SIX. Participate in Cruisin’ thru the Cozies with Yvonne @ Socrates Book Review. I’m entering at Level 4 – Sleuth Extraordinaire – Read 21 or more books.

SEVEN. Read at least 12 selections from my personal Classics Challenge list.

EIGHT. Once again, cut WAY back on my wardrobe. I want to go minimalist. I’m still working on the details. This includes my kids’ wardrobes too. They have so many clothes they rarely wear!

NINE. The obligatory fitness resolution. 😆 But seriously, after my epic year of reading, I really need to get my butt in gear and be more active.

TEN. Participate in TTT every week.

Your list of resolutions are quite precise. That’s great because then you can check off your goals once you’re done with them. 200 books is a huge goal, but I’m guessing some of them will be shorter books, children’s books, etc. I too want to limit my book buying. I never used to buy books but then I started and now it has gotten a bit out of control. Good luck on your resolutions!

Yes, I like to be precise (I’m trying to be precise with a few of the more nebulous personal goals as well, it’s just taking some time to figure out). 🙂

My Goodreads total for 2015 was 475 (and yes, that does include plenty of picture books, short stories / novellas, MG books, etc.) so 200 is totally doable for me. Digital audiobooks really help me read more too.

I’ve always been a big library user, so I don’t spend a lot on books, but I have started pre-ordering some favorite authors. Also, I can go a little nuts with used / bargain books. 😉 Now, if I get books / gift cards / cash as gifts, that’s going straight to buying books!

Some very ambitious challenges but no doubt you’ll knock them out, piece of cake!
I just finished a re-watch of ALL the Poirot mysteries with David Suchet so I am eyeing your list of Poirot books with some interest in doing that myself even though I swore no book dictating challenges. I feel like I have read so many of Agatha Christie’s books but I also wouldn’t be surprised if upon inspection I’ve only read half. She wrote so many! Is there a reason you picked those 12 specifically?
Good luck with all of your challenges and I will look forward to more book reviews from you:0)!

I’m reading all the Poirot books and stories in publication order, so those are the next 12 on the list. 🙂 When I’m done, I’d love to watch all the Suchet shows – he’s such a great Poirot! The whole reason I started the challenge was to make sure I’ve read them all because, like you, I wasn’t sure.
