Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is “Ten Books That Will Make You Laugh (or at least chuckle)”
There are a few books that I’ve been banned from reading in bed. 😆
- The Stephanie Plum mysteries, Lizzy and Diesel mysteries, and the Fox and O’Hare mysteries by Janet Evanovich
This was the second time in less than forty-eight hours that a man stopped fondling me because his phone rang. And both times it was because someone had been killed. If I wasn’t a well-adjusted, emotionally healthy person I might be bothered by this. – Tricky Twenty-Two (Stephanie Plum #22) by Janet Evanovich
- The Holmes on the Range mysteries by Steve Hockensmith
- I Work at a Public Library by Gina Sheridan
- The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick
… Kenny G is extremely talented and resourceful and a powerful force to be reckoned with … Mr. G might not seem evil, but I fear him more than any other human being.
- My Life in France by Julia Child
Ce merde-monsieur a justement craché dans ma derrière!
- The Pigeon books and the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems
- The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
- Mustache Baby and Mustache Baby Meets His Match by Bridget Heos
- The Mysterious Howling by Maryrose Wood (go for the audiobook, the narrator is AWEsome)
i adore The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! such a classic 🙂 My TTT

The author wrote 2 sequels! I haven’t read them yet, but they’re on the list. 😀

Evanovich makes me laugh for sure! I’ve heard of Hockensmith, but not read anything by him.
I just laughed out loud at the book I’m currently listening to. It’s not at all for this category but a thriller. Resistant by Michael Palmer. The main guy just caught a glimpse of himself in a mirror and muttered that his five o’clock shadow had turned into eleven thirty.

Do you enjoy westerns (books or films)? If so, Hockensmith’s Holmes on the Range is a great one! The humor can turn a little “Blazing Saddles” at times, but it’s fun. Old Red and Big Red are excellent characters.

I don’t generally read westerns and that may be why I’ve skipped Hockensmith. But Blazing Saddles is totally hilarious – so politically incorrect! I just rewatched it a couple of months ago. So Holmes on the Range are definitely a possibility for me. Thanks, Selah.

Glad I’m not the only one who brought up picture books! 🙂 Thanks for the new recs, I am going to have to make an effort to read some humorous “grown up” fiction now!

Haha, I’m actually half dreading my kids becoming too old for picture books – they’re so fun!

I’ve heard good things about Evanovich’s mysteries–guess I’d better add them to my TBR list! Here’s my TTT, if you want to check it out: http://newberyandbeyond.com/10-books-will-make-laugh/

Evanovich is a mixed bag. She can be very funny, but she also recycles plots and sometimes resorts to potty humor. I think she’s better with a writing partner, so try the Fox and O’Hare series that she writes with Lee Goldberg.
