TTT: Beach Vacation Edition

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is “Beach Reads Week — top ten great beach reads, ten books I plan to read on the beach, ten beach reads for those who don’t like typical ~beach reads~, ten authors who are my go-to for beach reads, etc.”

I went to the beach the 2nd week of May, and this is what I brought:

  1. A beach book. I don’t want to mess up my nice hardbacks, so I buy a cheap paperback to take out onto the beach. Eon by Alison Goodman – this one was a bust. 😦 It’s a good thing I only paid $0.25 or $0.50 for it.
  2. An audiobook for the car. I get horrible motion sickness if I try to read while moving (I can’t even rock in a chair while reading!). So, I always bring an audiobook to listen to. Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackarey – I finally finished it!!!
  3. A room book. Once I’ve taken a book out onto the beach and exposed it to sand, water, and sunscreen, I don’t like to read it in the hotel room. The Hollow by Agatha Christie – I was in the middle of reading this, so I brought it with me to read in the hotel room.
  4. An eBook. I like to read on my iPad in bed. Mr. Kiss and Tell by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham – I decided to put this on hold, in order to focus on another book.

I also brought some back-ups:

  1. A backup beach book. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton – this is the book I ended up reading the most.
  2. An backup audiobookStarflight by Melissa Landers – after I finished Vanity Fair, I switched to this (and it was awesome!).
  3. Or two. Death of a Poison Pen by M. C. Beaton. – I listened to this on the car ride home.
  4. A backup eBook. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton – I became so enthralled in my beach book that I ended up downloading an ebook copy to read in the room.

Jurassic Park is a seriously fun book! It’s obe of the few where I think the book and movie have equal merit even if for different reasons. Great book for the beach! I like that you had a very organized plan of attack for your beach reading, lol!

I was so excited to see Eon and a Veronica Mars book on here, but then I read your descriptions and it looks like you weren’t crazy about them 😦 But it sounds like you had a good time at the beach!

Never too much Jurassic Park! 🙂 Ha, you can’t read while rocking in a chair – I can’t even rock in a chair period, serious motion sickness.

I absolutely love that photo you took of your Jurassic Park book! Come to think of it, I feel like that is a perfect beach read because it’s fast-paced and gripping but still simple enough that you can still understand the story if you get a little distracted. Ahhh, now I just want to reread Jurassic Park!! 🙂
