A Bibliophile’s Pile (19): I’m Back!

You may have noticed that I didn’t post last Monday. That’s because I was at Disney World the entire previous week, and consequently did exactly zero reading.

Read

Smoke and Mirrors (Stephens & Mephisto Mystery, #2)Smoke and Mirrors by Elly Griffiths (audiobook / library)
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The sheer number of red herrings is astonishing! Max is rather wasted in this story, and the introduction of numerous new characters is distracting, but I still enjoyed it.

Dark MatterDark Matter by Blake Crouch (eBook / library)
My rating: 2.5 of 5 stars

Meh. The story is completely plot driven, and even though there are multiple versions of several main characters, I never felt like I really *knew* the characters or cared about them at all.

Going, Going, Ganache (Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #5)Going, Going, Ganache by Jenn McKinlay (audiobook / library)
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I love the characters (especially Oz and Marty) and the mystery was decent, but the romance is eye-roll inducing.

The Decorator Who Knew Too MuchThe Decorator Who Knew Too Much by Diane Vallere (audiobook / library)
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I did *not* like the short chapters from Tex’s POV – it’s such a departure for the series. Also, how have I not noticed the correlation between Hudson James and Rock Hudson🤦🏻‍♀️ The mystery was solid, but the romance was all over the place. I’m getting sick of that trope in Cozies. 🙄
