TTT: 2016 Faves

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is “Top Ten Favorite 2016 Releases So Far This Year.”

  1. Once Was a Time by Leila Sales
    ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Absolutely brilliant! Sales’ prose is lovely, the friendships described are beautiful, and time is “like a big ball of wibbly wobbly… time-y wimey… stuff.”
  2. Starflight by Melissa Landers
    ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 1/2
I was skeptical about this book – YA sci-fi romance could be great, or it could suck. But, I read a review that said this one would scratch the Firefly itch, so I gave it a shot. I’m so glad I did! The story reads like a season of a TV show – rather episodic, with an overarching story, and definitely set up for a sequel. The characters are fun, the romance is a slow burn (so much better than instalove), and the plot, though episodic, is engaging. Now I have to wait a year for the sequel. 😦
  3. Adulthood Is a Myth: A Sarah’s Scribbles Collection by Sarah Andersen
    ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I’m a bit too old / conservative to be a Millennial, but I could still relate to enough of these cartoons to LOL multiple times.
  4. The Princess in Black and the Hungry Bunny Horde by Shannon and Dean Hale, and LeUyen Pham.
    ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I bought this as a Valentine’s Day gift for my daughter. She adores the cute purple bunnies!
  5. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro.
    ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
    See my review here.
  6. Lady Renegades by Rachel Hawkins.
    ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Original review in April, 2016: 3 Stars. A bit of a letdown after loving Rebel Belle and Miss Mayhem. Harper and David’s relationship was a highlight of the other books, but they spend the majority of this book apart. Also, I didn’t remember Harper being quite so judgmental. She complained about everything! I missed Amy Rubinate’s fabulous narration as well. Maybe I should’ve waited for the audiobook.

Audiobook re-read review in June, 2016: My original review holds true, but Amy Rubinate’s narration adds a star!

TTT: Due in 2016

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant To Get To But Didn’t. Since that didn’t really happen to me, I’m doing a similar topic that I missed a few weeks back: Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half of 2016.

  1. The Princess in Black and the Hungry Bunny Horde by Shannon and Dean Hale, and LeUyen Pham.
    Expected publication: February 9th 2016.
Sweet Potato loves this series, so I’ve pre-ordered a copy as a Valentine’s Day gift for her.
  2. Wedding Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke.
    Expected publication: February 23rd 2016.
Will Hannah Swensen’s love life finally move forward?!? I’m #19 on my library’s hold list, but they have 10 copies, so it shouldn’t be too long of a wait.
  3. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro.
    Expected publication: March 1st 2016.
YA Holmes and Watson? Please, and thank you. I was lucky enough to win an Advanced Reader’s Edition from Harper Teen via Goodreads! Review closer to the release date.
  4. Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston.
    Expected publication: March 15th 2016.
A YA re-telling of Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale! I’m #3 on my library’s hold list, but they have 5 copies, so I should get it right away.
  5. Lady Renegades by Rachel Hawkins.
    Expected publication: April 12th 2016.
I loved the first two books in the Rebel Belle series, so I’m excited to be  #1 on my library’s hold list!
  6. Flora and the Peacocks by Molly Idle.
    Expected publication: May 3rd 2016.
Sweet Potato loves Molly Idle’s illustrations. 🙂
  7. Every Exquisite Thing by Matthew Quick.
    Expected publication: May 10th 2016.
Quick’s The Silver Linings Playbook and Sorta Like a Rock Star were awesome. My library doesn’t have a copy in their system yet, but I’m stalking the website!
  8. Stiletto by Daniel O’Malley
    Expected publication: June 14th 2016.
The Rook was amazing, so I pre-ordered this one on June 15, 2015. The expected publication date keeps changing! :/
  9. The Fever Code by James Dashner.
    Expected publication: September 27th 2016.
A prequel to The Maze Runner. I’m hoping for lots of my book boyfriend, Minho.
  10. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies film.
    Expected release: February 5th 2016.
Exactly what it sounds like. I read the book years back and found it silly. However, I think it will make for a fun film. Plus, Matt Smith!
