A Bibliophile’s Pile (33): I Mean Really?

Read

Sense and Sensibility and Sea MonstersSense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Ben H. Winters (audiobook / library)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This would probably have been a 3 star read if I’d read a print version. The 4th star is for Katherine Kellgren’s brilliant, hilarious narration. She is easily my favorite audiobook narrator! I found the scene where Edward, Elinor, Lucy, and Marianne all meet in Mrs. Jennings’ parlor a witty, though disturbing, commentary on the straight-laced honor bound personalities of Edward and Elinor.

On Her Majesty's Frightfully Secret ServiceOn Her Majesty’s Frightfully Secret Service by Rhys Bowen (physical  /library)
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The overall plot advances (yay!), and, after a slow start, the mystery is interesting. I *did* figure out who the killer was and part of how it was done.

AustenlandAustenland by Shannon Hale (audiobook / library / re-read)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Haha, it’s amazing how many times I’ve read this book, considering it’s never been a 5 star book for me. It’s a fun, frothy, easy read, and Katherine Kellgren could make the phone book hilarious!

The Prayers of Jane AustenThe Prayers of Jane Austen by Jane Austen (physical / own)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Absolutely beautiful! These prayers, though formal, feel so much more personal than Austen’s novels – I’ve never felt so connected with Jane as a person, rather than an author. The book is tiny and exquisite. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

Exclamation MarkExclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosenthal (physical / library /re-read / with kids)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this on my son’s recommendation, and it is delightful!
