Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Favorite Heroines From Books:
- Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
- Anne Elliot from Persuasion by Jane Austen.
- Anne Shirley from the Anne of Green Gables series by L. M. Montgomery.
- Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
- Sabriel & Lirael from the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix (pictured above).
- Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling.
- Littlest One from Gossamer by Lois Lowry.
- Lucy Pevensie from the Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis.
- Pippi Longstocking from the series by Astrid Lindgren.
- Frances from the series by Russell Hoban (pictured below).
I love your list and we have quite a few overlaps (Lucy, Anne, Elizabeth Bennet). I especially like your additions of Sabriel and Lirael – I have been reflecting while reading Abhorsen that Nix is pretty great at writing female characters. I also like Pippi! I didn’t think of her at all but I remember as a child being so envious of how free-spirited, fearless and full of fun she was!

Thanks! I included some kids’ heroines because it’s something I’ve been thinking about lately for my kids – wanting to give them literary figures to admire. 🙂

I love so many of these characters with Elizabeth Bennett and Hermione being at the top of my list!

Lizzie and Hermione are some of the best because they’re incredibly relatable. My personality is very similar to Lizzie, and I love Hermione’s bookishness. 🙂

KATNISS IS SOMEONE I LOVED TOO!
MY TOP TEN TUESDAY

Katniss is an incredibly flawed character, which is a major reason that I love her. It’s not truly bravery if you’re not scared, right? Prim and Rue deserve to be on the list as well. 🙂

Wow I’m surprised to see Pippi, almost forgot about her!

I have kids, so I tend to include some picture books & middle grade books in my TTTs. Pippi is fabulous fun!

The people who don’t put Hermione and Katniss on their lists don’t deserve to be here. Lol.

Haha! I almost didn’t include them, or Elizabeth Bennett and Anne Shirley, simply because I thought they would be on everyone’s list. But leaving them off would be dishonest, because I LOVE them! I’ve seen / thought of SO MANY others that could be here too.

Pippi is so fun! I’m planning to read the books to my kids this summer. It’ll be a re-read for my son, but the first time for my daughter. I think she’s going to love Pippi. 😀

What a great list! Lots of overlap here, too. I love Lucy and Frances and Pippi, even if they didn’t make my list. And I need to read the Garth Nix series!

You really should! Sabriel, Lirael, and their sidekicks are all wonderful!

I love Gossamer! It’s such a quick, insightful little read. Proof that you don’t have to write a giant tome to say something profound! 🙂

Agreed – Lois Lowry is the queen of little books with big messages. 🙂
