- Agatha Christie (78) – Poirot, Miss Marple, et al., are dear friends!
- Mary Higgins Clark (35) – They don’t call her the Queen of Suspense for nothing!
- M. C. Beaton (31) – Agatha Raisin is an infuriating anti-heroine and I ❤ her. I’ve recently started in on the Hamish Macbeth series.
- L. M. Montgomery (30) – I was obsessed with her books as an adolescent!
- Janet Evanovich (27) – Sure, Stephanie Plum is getting a little tired, but the books still make me LOL.
- Jill Churchill (22) – I’m a fan of both her Jane Jeffry series and her Grace & Favor historicals.
- Lemony Snicket (21) – My kids and I adore Snicket’s wit!
- Carola Dunn (21) – The Daisy Dalrymple Cozy series is one of my favorites.
- Joanne Fluke (20) – The Hannah Swensen Cozy series is another favorite.
- Michael Crichton (16) – I went through a Crichton phase about 15 years ago. Rising Sun freaked me out because my husband was working for a Japanese company at the time. I was terrified of attending the Christmas party!

I read all of ASOUE as an adult before my kids were even old enough for them! I re-read them to my son when he was 5 or 6 (and then he determinedly read the series himself when he was 7). Now we’re reading the All the Wrong Questions series. ❤

Mysteries! You are a girl after my own heart. 🙂 MC Beaton is #1 on my list – but for the opposite reason. I love Hamish Macbeth. I’ve only read one Agatha, but I do plan on reading more. Evanovich made my list too. I am Plummed out, but have two to go. Plus the new one in a few months. I do enjoy her Lizzy/Diesel series though. GREAT list!

I love a good mystery! I’ve started listening to audio versions of Hamish Macbeth – the accents really enhance the experience! 😀 I got on the Plum train early, so I’ve read them as they’ve come out. I like Lizzy & Diesel just fine, but I loathe Carl the monkey.

I’ve read the first book twice. I read it when it first came out and then, unwisely, decided to read it again to refresh myself on the series. I probably would’ve DNF’d it the second time and moved on the #2 except that it was the only book I had with me while on jury duty. Ugh.

The more lists I look at, the more authors I realize I missed! I’ve read almost as many Mary Higgins Clark novels as Agatha Christie, and almost everything by Michael Crichton.

Oh, I know there are ones I’ve forgotten (or left off because it’s been 20+ years since I read anything by them). I made the mistake of reading Crichton’s posthumous book, MIcro. I felt like I could tell exactly where the other author took over, and it was not good.

Balzac, at over 100, would be my top author, but some of my series mysteries authors would come close.

I can’t figure out how some writers are so prolific! Christie wrote for 53 years and Beaton has been at it for 36, but Balzac only lived 51 years, so how did he DO it?

The thing about Christie, I’ve read a lot of her books. Probably all of the Marples except for short story collections and most of the Poirots, but nowhere near as many as you’ve read. Missing the Tommy and Tuppence ones, think I’ve read one and most of the miscellaneous characters.
As to Balzac, twelve hours or more a day when he’s writing and pots of coffee. I should say “night” since that was when he preferred to write. Some of his are short stories and novellas, but he had some really, really long ones too so the length sort of evens out. Even more amazing is his publishing habit. He would make so many changes on the proofs that it’s unreal. Some books would go through numerous proofs before actually getting published.

Thank goodness for great authors with really long series! Dame Agatha made my list as well though I don’t think I’m close to 78 books of hers! That actually makes me excited that I have some more yet to go. I’ve also read quite a few of M.C. Beaton’s books, mostly in the Hamish MacBeth series however. I’ve read one Agatha Raisin and then a couple of her historicals. I like her books but also have to be in the mood for her writing style which I think is pretty unique. Great list!

Goodreads lets me count Christie’s short stories (some of which are novella length) as separate entries, but still, she was extremely prolific! 66 detective novels, 6 romances (under a pseudonym), 153 short stores, and several plays! M. C. Beaton has written even more, with all her pseudonyms.

Mary Higgins Clark! I used to read her more when I was younger, and I’d love to dive in to some of her books again. So glad we share Christie and Montgomery! And Lemony Snicket–another fun one. 😀

MHC’s overall quality is not as good as it once was. I’ve been disappointed in several of her recent books. However, I’ve Got You Under My Skin was very good, and it’s been turned into the Under Suspicion series, coauthored by Alafair Burke. It’s fun to see a series from MHC!
